I love being creative in the kitchen. In fact, one of my friends recently told me that creativity in the kitchen was one of my specialties. That’s a compliment I can definitely appreciate! I love adding different foods together to optimize flavor. Sometimes I think about it in awe – how some foods just pair well so perfectly! Almost like they were made for each other. Nut butter and jelly. Cilantro, lime, and sea salt. Apples and cinnamon. Nut butter and chocolate. Milk and cookies. Cake and ice cream. Nut butter and apples. Wine and cheese. Cheese and everything. Nut butter and honey. Okay, you get what I’m trying to say. I could go on for a really long time. Also…I think I really like nut butter.
I’m not going to lie, reflecting on how some foods just pair so perfectly together, it pointed my eyes to God. In His lovingkindness, He has made food that not only keeps us alive, sustains us and gives us energy, but that taste delicious! And he gave us tastebuds to receive the flavor of His food. He is so merciful, loving, and kind.
Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry, but those who trust in the LORD will lack no good thing. Psalm 34:10
I thought this passage was fitting because basically, I’m lacking no good thing in this bowl of yumminess! The meaning of the passage goes much deeper than my snack. In life, having God and belonging to Him means that I have something more valuable than all of the riches in the world. More valuable than earthly kingdoms or castles or jewels or millions of dollars or even close relatives. I have Him. He holds the key to true life, and He holds my heart. He’s so good. He’s everything good and perfect and pleasing.
But for my little bowl of yumminess, I still thought this passage was fitting. 🙂
Here’s a little treat I made myself after a great run. I hit 3k in 25 minutes and was pretty proud of myself.
A couple (k, maybe 3) tablespoons of almond butter, greek yogurt, raisins, sunflower seeds, shredded unsweetened coconut, pumpkin pie spice, and a little bit of coconut sugar!
It tasted amazing.
I take pretty seriously refueling the body after a strenuous activity like running. Because one’s muscles stretch and get used so much while running, it’s imperative that you give your body the nutrients it needs right after running so that those nutrients can be used to repair your muscles. Without it, you risk injury, such as muscle cramps, rib stitches, and soreness. Protein and carbs do wonder at a time like this! Which makes me really happy, because…carbs.
There aren’t many carbs in this snack, but it’s loaded with great nutrient-rich foods! I literally just got creative and whipped this up, and it tasted amazing. Usually I love making myself a delicious smoothie after a run, but my blender has been broken (err…due to making too many smoothies, the motor became worn out) and boy, am I glad it was broken, because what I came up with ended up being so yummy and energizing, and most important, healthy!
