Our Hearts and God

No matter what storm you face, you can have Jesus’ protection and His promises to shield you and cover you. All you have to do is seek Him and ask Him to BE your life and be your God. But it really isn’t a ritualistic formula of words that will bring you forgiveness and closeness to Him, because anyone can say this but their heart not ready for God whatsoever. Anyone can say they are Christian but their hearts be far distant from God, not in true fellowship with Him. It goes deeper than the surface. Much deeper.

No, it’s a heart and soul that realizes she can’t do it on her own. She must realize that she’s a sinner against a perfect, holy, righteous, just God and that she can’t save herself. She must realize that she needs Him to rescue her or she’s doomed. She must realize that He’s her only hope in this messed up life, that He’s the only way, the only truth, and the only life. She must get to a place where she abandons everything else and comes to Him undone. She must get to a place of having a tender, open, raw heart ready for Him to make His home in her and make her whole and heal her. She must recognize that no man can love her like He loves her.

It’s imperative to know that there is no point to existence without God, and that He’s the only one who could ever satisfy fully. When this happens, He becomes our Rock, unwavering through all the storms of our life. He becomes closer to us than our own heart beating inside of our chest. And speaking from experience, it is so incredibly good and nothing could ever compare.

You see, before His Spirit dwells in us, it’s hard to fathom having real affections for God. It’s difficult to comprehend that our burdens can be lifted. Our sin and guilt and shame can vanish. It’s hard to grasp that we can actually feel so close to Him – closer than any human being that might be right in front of us. That we can feel His love so strongly that He leaves us breathless and makes our heart pound hard inside of our chest.

It’s difficult to picture in our minds and hearts that this can be our reality…until, that is, it actually happens. Until we seek Him with all our heart, our mind, our might, and our soul. Until He fills us with Himself. But that’s why the first step is faith. We reach out to Him in faith, asking Him to be ours. What we get in return is beyond our own comprehension. And it is so incredibly good that all the words in all the languages on earth would never be enough to fully describe this gift.

Some say it takes a great amount of faith to hold onto and believe in an invisible God; I say, it takes even greater faith to believe that this all came from nothing and we’re here for nothing and we’re doing nothing then we’ll die into nothing.

THAT, friends, takes faith.

{Psalm 92:14-16}
The LORD says,
“I will rescue those who love me.
I will protect those who call on My name.
When they call on me, I will answer;
I will be with them in trouble.
I will rescue and honour them.
I will reward them with a long life,
And give them my salvation.
